THE DISTRICT OFFICE SUMMER HOURS ARE

3rd Grade Content
Instructor: Ms. Stacy Cronquist
Reading (ECAR - Every Child a Reader):
Every day, the class sits together to read a story and answer comprehension questions as a group. After whole group instruction, students are broken up into 4 groups to rotate through various reading stations. Throughout this time students have the opportunity to work on specific learning targets with me, practice the same learning targets independently, read independently, and work on reading standards through the Moby Max website on class Chromebooks.

Writing (ECAW - Every Child a Writer):
Similar to reading time, we start the class together writing a story following the current learning targets. Once we finish setting the tone for writing expectations, students are broken up into 4 groups to follow the same rotation schedule as reading. Students start a writing prompt with me, finish it independently (following the same learning targets we learned together), work writing/grammar/spelling related activities independently, and work on writing activities through Moby Max on the Chromebooks.

Math (Go Math):
Students complete math lessons and assignments provided from a fun and interactive curriculum called Go Math. At the beginning of each lesson, students get to watch a short video introducing them to the topic that activates their prior knowledge to the learning target that day. I teach the content directly to the students first, then we practice the work together, and then students work on the content themselves to show me they understand what they learned. Some days student work in rotations (similar to reading and writing), but other days we do the entire lesson as a whole group depending on the needs of the students and that lesson.

Science/Social Studies:
Science and social studies are taught for a half hour each day. Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to rotate through the 3rd grade teachers to learn a new science/social studies topic that each teacher covers.

Counselor:
At Highland Elementary, we are very fortunate to have a school counselor who comes into each classroom once a week to work with the students and help them work through various social situation.

Library and Book Mobile:
Students have many opportunities to check out books by visiting the library weekly and the High Plains Book Mobile bi-weekly. Students are responsible for these books and getting them turned in on time! Please see me with any questions about this process.
